A Guide To Barnsley Recycling Centres

Which waste streams are accepted at Barnsley recycling centres?

Ensure your waste is separated before you attend to make your trip easier. All the Barnsley recycling centres have skips for the following waste types:

  • Green garden waste
  • Wood and chipboards
  • Cardboard
  • Paper
  • Metal
  • Large electrical items
  • Small electrical items
  • Hard plastics (temporarily unavailable at our Smithies Lane site)
  • Textiles and shoes
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Car oil
  • Cooking oil
  • Household batteries
  • Televisions
  • Fridges and freezers (domestic only)
  • Soil and rubble (maximum of 5 x 25kg bags within any six-month period)
  • Cardboard drinks cartons
  • Domestic fluorescent tubes and bulbs

Which items are not accepted at Barnsley recycling centres?

  • Car Tyres – Local dealers may accept them for a fee.
  • Vehicle parts.
  • Building waste for anything more than small DIY projects.
  • Any more than 5 small bags of soil.
  • Sheets or large quantities of asbestos – Hire specialist company.

Are gas canisters accepted at Barnsley recycling centres?

Gas Canisters are only accepted at Worsbrough.

Please note: Most gas canisters are not waste and have a value created by an initial deposit upon purchase. Contact the manufacturer or a local gas supplier for more information.

Is plasterboard accepted at Barnsley recycling centres?

Plasterboard is accepted in small quantities, but only at Worsbrough.

Is asbestos accepted at Barnsley recycling centres?

Asbestos is accepted in small quantities by appointment at Worsbrough.
