Guinness-furness house-clearance

This month, the heirs to the Guinness brand, auctioned off the contents of their Georgian property, Furness House, which was built in 1740.  The auction was held at Killashee House Hotel due to the house currently being for sale.  Patrick and Louise Guinness (Patrick being thedirect descendent) are the seventh generation, post Arthur Guinness, when they bought Furness House in 1994.  21 years later, the couples have decided to downsize their house and get rid of many of its valuable contentsby having a house clearance sale, since the last of their four children left home.  Many of the items being sold are Guinness and Co. memorabilia.  Items like a rare pair of metal-bound stout barrels which were inscribed with the company name made €2,300 and a set of coloured caricature prints entitled The Gentle Art of Making Guinness sold for €1,600.  Though the biggest surprise of the day during the house clearance auction was the success of an Edwardian carved and hand painted rocking horse.  It was estimated to fetch between €800 and €1,200 but sold for a whopping €6,600!
